Our very own GreenWood Family Park – one of North Wales’ most popular tourist hotspots – has unveiled its latest ride as it continues to build on its reputation as one of the country’s greenest and most family-oriented attractions.
The Forest Glider – or Gleidar y Goedwig in Welsh – made its inaugural run in March, in perfect time for the first busy period of the season over the Easter holidays.
The 20-metre tall dual-run slide is the only one of its kind in Wales and was imported from the Netherlands to add to the park’s already impressive roster of over 30 rides and activities.
Forest Glider represents an investment of more than £100,000 in the park by Continuum. The site was acquired by the group in 2017 and has already won numerous awards for its commitment to sustainability and a fun family day out, including a Gold accolade from Visit Wales in recognition of its ability to provide an outstanding and memorable experience – something GreenWood can now build on further with its latest ride.
Individuals are able to ride the 75-metre long run in individual rubber rings – known as ‘snow tubes’ or pair up with friends or a family member in a larger, two-person ring. The ride plays into the park’s sustainable ethos as riders carry their chosen ring to the top of the 20-metre slope before pushing off. This means that no power is needed to run the ride as individuals are powering it themselves!
Forest Glider also sits alongside Little Green Run – our much smaller ride aimed at children under six. The child-only ride allows little ones to sledge down a short run – even if there’s no snow.
As with every ride, riding the Forest Glider is part of the admission fee.
